General site FAQ for codingstyle.com (Last modified on May 31, 2002)

Welcome to codingstyle, a news, documentation, and discussion portal for software developers. This site features a variety of content related to the art and science of software engineering. Whether you are a professional software engineer or a weekend hobbyist, this site should have something of interest to offer you.

Here is some information about codingstyle which should help you to get the most out of this site:

  • Your story submissions are always welcome!
    I am continually scouring the web looking for great news, articles, tutorials, and other information which would be suitable for posting to this site. Obviously it is impossible for me to find everything on my own however, so if you happen to find something you think would be useful to other developers, and as long as it is related to to this site's content and is timely news, it will probably be posted. However;

  • There is always a good reason when your submission is rejected
    Everytime I reject a story, article, or link submission, I do so with regret, because I recognize and appreciate the time you have taken to prepare your submission. Your submissions are always carefully examined, and as long as they are timely and on-topic, should have a good chance of being posted. But in order to keep this site focused on its chosen topics (the art and science of software engineering), off-topic postings will be rejected. It is also a good idea to do a search of previous Codingstyle stories to ensure your story link hasn't already been featured at an earlier date.

  • Codingstyle is not only about story links, but original content as well
    While I am continually scouring news and other web sites to find articles of possible interest for this site, codingstyle is not just ``another news links site''. Although this site is still fairly new (it was launched in late November of 2001), I am preparing to post our first original content (a coding tutorial), and as this site grows there will be more to follow, including other tutorials, editorials, and interviews. Of course, I am always happy to feature your original articles, tutorials, and reviews, as long as they fit the theme of this site.

  • Your discussions contribute value to this site
    While I try to post articles which should have broad appeal to the readers of Kerneltrap, I also think that reader comments add an incredible value to each article, and are often the most interesting part of any story. If you have a question about an article, or would like to comment on how you would have implemented something discussed in the article, by all means post a comment and let the world know what is on your mind. Your comments will help increase the appeal and interest of Codingstyle, bring more repeat visitors, which should result in more story submissions and value for all of us.

  • Registering for a user account has some great benefits
    Registering for a user account is extremely easy -- just visit the codingstyle user account page and fill in the blanks. Your user account allows you to become a recognized, active community participant in the various story comments you post, optionally store and display contact information about yourself or your web site, and set your preferences for a number of features including your choice of any one of the varied themes available. Best of all, registering for a user account is free!
