Java
O'Reilly's OnJava.com site has posted part one and part two of an excerpt of their Java Enterprise in a Nutshell, 2nd ed. by D. Flanagan, J. Farley, W. Crawford (April 2002; O'Reilly Publishing; ISBN 0-596-00152-5). The excerpt gives an overview of what JDBC is for, and how to use it to connect to a data source (which is usually an RDBMS) and retrieve or modify data from your Java application. Also, for more information on developing with JDBC, Codingstyle has a couple of older articles.
