In late April, after a long wait, I finally got my Japanese PlayStation 2 Linux kit delivered. I discovered (the hard way) that my LCD monitor does not support sync on green, but I managed to get Linux installed at work, and now I am using it primarily as a networked file server. It does a fine job in this role, but if the mood hits I can also use the NTSC mode to bring X up on my television. I would be a very happy camper indeed, if I could get some codec support for mplayer, as well as a setiathome client. ;-) But I digress. This is a coding site, so read on if you're interested in some interesting resources on programming the PS2 Linux kit...
First, the
O'Reilly Network has a look at
what the PS2 Linux kit has to offer. The
ps2dev.livemedia.com.au site is a decent site for PS2-related software and news, and also offers
programming guides and other reference material, a collection of
development tools, as well as a
series of tutorials on getting started developing with your PS2. Next, check out the
playstation2-linux.com developer network, where you can access a variety of
documentation, sample code, and tools. Also,
PS2dev has some helpful information, including a link to an early release of an
open source development guide. Finally, if your browser can handle Japanese, a helpful list of applications is also available. Any more helpful links? Please post a comment!
